President Lee Jae-myung will appear on a special program themed around K-pop on the 20th, the presidential office announced. As the original soundtrack (OST) of the Netflix animated film 'K-Pop: Demon Hunters' has ranked 2nd on the U.S. Billboard main album chart 'Billboard 200' for three consecutive weeks, this event will be a discussion with industry experts on the prospects of the K-pop industry.
According to the presidential office on the 19th, President Lee will make a special appearance on Arirang International Broadcasting's special program 'K-Pop: The Next Chapter' airing at 5 p.m. that day. The broadcast will feature Megi Kang, director of 'K-Pop: Demon Hunters', along with TWICE members Jihyo and Jeongyeon, producer R.Tee, and critic Kim Young-dae.
The presidential office explained that President Lee is expected to explore the global status K-pop has built, the expansiveness and industrial potential shown by global content, and share ideas for moving to the next stage of K-pop. The presidential office said, "Korea needs continuous growth and innovation in cultural industries such as K-pop to become a cultural powerhouse among the big five of soft power" and stated, "We plan to utilize voices and insights from the field to inform future policy directions."
Previously, President Lee reportedly watched K-pop related content such as 'K-Demon Hunters' ahead of his summer vacation. When his aides suggested, "It would be great if you could watch K-Demon Hunters during your vacation," a presidential office official stated that President Lee was already aware of the related content. During the presidential election process, President Lee repeatedly conveyed that he would actively nurture strategic industries, including K-pop and K-culture, so they could lead the global market.
