The People Power Party criticized the special prosecutor team led by Min Joon-ki, investigating allegations against Kim Keon-hee, for raiding the central party office on the 13th, calling it "oppression of the opposition party by the Lee Jae-myung regime." They also reiterated that they cannot cooperate with the request for a submission of the party membership list from the special prosecutor.
Song Eon-seok, chairperson of the People Power Party and floor leader, said during an emergency response committee meeting held at the central party office in Yeouido, Seoul, on the morning of the 18th, "The Lee Jae-myung regime should not use the special prosecutor as a tool for oppression against the opposition party and political retaliation, and I urge them to immediately stop such actions."
Chairperson Song stated, "I expect that the special prosecutor will again rush into the central party office with a search warrant," adding, "I want to make it clear that we cannot cooperate at all with this inhumane search that treats all members of the People Power Party as potential criminals."
"To steal the core personal information of 5 million party members is akin to theft of personal data and surveillance of the opposition party and the public," he emphasized, adding that "the national integration that President Lee Jae-myung speaks of is no different from 'amnesty for my side, investigation for your side' and 'innocence for my side, guilt for your side.'"
The People Power Party plans to visit the office of the special prosecutor investigating Kim Keon-hee and the Seoul Central District Court in the afternoon to urge the suspension of the raid on the central party office. Previously, the special prosecutor raided the central party office of the People Power Party on the 13th to investigate allegations of collusion with Geonjinbeopsa and the Unification Church, but suspended the execution after standoffs with the party leadership. The execution warrant for the raid is valid until the 20th.
The People Power Party also criticized President Lee's stance on North Korea, including the restoration of the September 19 military agreement and the reduction of joint military exercises with the United States. Chairperson Song noted that "President Lee stated in his Liberation Day speech that he would respect the North Korean system and would not pursue any absorbing unification," adding that "he even declared that he would proactively restore the September 19 military agreement."
He pointed out that "this is just a submissive measure to appease North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, and eventually, Kim Yo-jong mocked it as 'an absurd daydream.'" He added, "Yet, they are unable to even protest and are overly cautious of North Korea's regime."
