Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Koo Yun-cheol said on the 18th, "We need to actively incorporate digital technologies such as AI into our work to enhance efficiency."
On the same day, Deputy Prime Minister Koo noted during the "Changers' meeting" held at the Government Sejong Hall, "We must change the work environment to focus on outcomes rather than form."
"Changers" is a gathering of employees aimed at improving the work style and organizational culture of the Ministry of Economy and Finance. The main agenda for the meeting was what needs to be done for the ministry's direction and national transformation.
Deputy Prime Minister Koo emphasized the importance of actively utilizing AI, citing as an example the establishment of an "AI Hub" on the internet portal, the first of its kind in government ministries, where employees can freely use generative AIs like ChatGPT and Perplexity.
During the meeting, an employee proposed, "Let's develop a generative AI solution that can operate on the internal network of the ministry." In response, Deputy Prime Minister Koo instructed the relevant department to "actively consider this matter" and to conduct an immediate review.
Deputy Prime Minister Koo also remarked, "To enhance the public's perception of government policies, we must find answers on the ground," and urged that "Changers should take the lead as 'on-site problem solvers.'"
He added, "We will strive to minimize unnecessary formalities such as face-to-face reports and meetings, and work to create an organizational culture that contributes to work-life balance." He further stated, "To gather diverse opinions, we will continuously engage in communication with employees, starting with Changers."
