President Lee Jae-myung will host a film screening event of the movie 'Independence Army: The Unfinished War' with the public on the 17th to commemorate the 80th anniversary of liberation.
On the 16th, President Lee noted on social media (SNS), "I will watch the movie 'Independence Army: The Unfinished War', which was recommended by actor Jo Jin-woong, on Sunday morning." Citizens wishing to attend can apply by 11 a.m. that day.
The screening location will be in a certain part of Seoul, and the specific cinema location or time will be provided separately for security reasons.
President Lee said through SNS, "In the foundation of the prosperity and freedom we enjoy today, there exist countless unnamed heroes who burned themselves with an unyielding will for liberation and a strong hope for the recovery of sovereignty."
He continued, "As we reflect on that sacrifice and dedication, I ask you to join in this meaningful time to share the significance of 80 years of liberation," adding, "If possible, I hope that many more of you will honor the proud history of the Liberation Army and remember it by joining me in the screening."
The film 'Independence Army: The Unfinished War' is a documentary about the life of independence activist General Hong Beom-do and was released on the 13th. Actor Jo Jin-woong participated in the film's narration.
Jo Jin-woong recited the pledge of allegiance to the national flag at the 80th anniversary of Liberation Day celebration the day before. Prior to the event, he explained the film to President Lee Jae-myung in a preliminary meeting. Jo Jin-woong also participated as a 'national special envoy' when General Hong Beom-do's remains were returned to the country in 2021.
