On the 15th, to mark the 80th anniversary of Liberation Day, President Lee Jae-myung said, "Japan is our neighbor with whom we share the same yard and an important partner in economic development that cannot be considered separately."
President Lee spoke at the celebration ceremony for the 80th anniversary of Liberation Day held at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts in Seoul on the morning of the same day.
President Lee noted, "Sixty years ago, at the time of normalization of diplomatic relations between Korea and Japan, only about 10,000 people traveled between the two countries, but now we have entered an era of 12 million annual exchanges. Our national power has also grown to an incomparable level compared to then" and added, "Just as Korea and Japan have grown together in industrial development, when our two countries cooperate for the future based on trust, we will be able to overcome the challenges of the super gap artificial intelligence era."
He continued, "With the principle of practical diplomacy centered on national interests, I will seek future-oriented cooperative development with Japan through shuttle diplomacy by meeting frequently and having open discussions" and expressed hope that "the Japanese government will face the painful history of the past and make efforts not to damage the trust between our countries."
