Former Rebuilding Korea Party leader Cho Kuk was released from Seoul Southern Detention Center at midnight on the 15th, as the Rebuilding Korea Party accelerates its return to the 'Cho Kuk system.'
The Rebuilding Korea Party held a Supreme Council meeting at the National Assembly on the 14th and decided on the formation of the party's election management committee. Chairperson Cha Kyu-geun was appointed as the chair, and Deputy Secretary-General Lee Gyu-won was appointed as the vice chair.
The election management committee will prepare procedures for a party-wide vote to reduce the current leadership's term and hold an early party convention, as decided during the party's executive committee meeting the previous day. The party member vote is expected to take place next week.
The Rebuilding Korea Party has been preparing the procedures for the return of former leader Cho Kuk to the party leadership since the special pardon list was announced immediately after Liberation Day on the 11th.
The previous day, the emergency supreme council and the party's executive committee held consecutive meetings, deciding to shorten the terms of the current leadership, including the acting representative Kim Sun-min, and to hold an early party convention.
As the election management committee was formed that day, it is expected that consent for an early party convention will be obtained following a party-wide vote next week.
Former leader Cho Kuk's return to the party is also expected to take place next week.
A representative of the Rebuilding Korea Party noted, "Former leader Cho is expected to return to the party early next week," adding, "The method of his return has not yet been decided."
Former leader Cho is expected to quickly return to the party leadership. There is strong demand from party members for his return, and most members of the leadership and the party have already taken this as a given.
Within the party, preparations for former leader Cho's future political activities are also being discussed.
A representative of the Rebuilding Korea Party stated, "For the time being, the plan is to conduct activities in the region, but specific schedules will progress after (former leader Cho's) release."
Meanwhile, former leader Cho is expected to show his public activities after resting until the weekend following his release.
Yoon Jae-kwan, the chief spokesperson, told reporters after the supreme council meeting that day, "The likelihood of former leader Cho having his first public schedule over the weekend is low."
