On the 13th, President Lee Jae-myung nominated Choi Kyo-jin, the Superintendent of Education in Sejong City, as the new Minister of Education. He nominated Won Min-kyung, a lawyer, for Minister of Gender Equality and Family. For Commissioner of the Fair Trade Commission, he nominated Professor Joo Byeong-gi from Seoul National University's Department of Economics, and for Chairperson of the Financial Services Commission, he nominated Former Vice Minister Lee Eok-won from the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
Deputy Minister Kang Hoon stated during a briefing at the Presidential Office that he announced the personnel appointments for heads of four ministries and two commissions.
He appointed Professor Cha Jeong-in from Pusan National University's Law School as the Chairperson of the National Education Commission. He appointed Professor Kim Ho from Dankook University's Department of Food Resource Economics as the Chairperson of the Special Committee on Agriculture and Fishing. The Chairperson of the National Education Commission and the Chairperson of the Special Committee on Agriculture and Fishing are at the ministerial level.
Deputy Minister Kang noted about nominee Choi Kyo-jin, "a recognized education expert who has dedicated over 40 years from middle school teacher to superintendent," and explained the background of the nomination, stating, "He has a high understanding of regional balance, having served as the president of the National Council of Superintendents and as an advisor to the Balanced Development Commission." He emphasized that, based on his rich experience, he will implement the President's promises, including the creation of 10 facilities at Seoul National University. Nominee Choi, a native of Boryung, has previously served as a permanent member of the Peaceful Unification Advisory Council and as the chairperson of the Executive Committee of the National Council for Reconciliation.
Deputy Minister Kang said of nominee Won Min-kyung, "a legal professional who has actively worked for the human rights of women and socially disadvantaged people, having served as chairperson of the Women's Rights Committee of the Lawyers for a Democratic Society and as an advisor for the National Assembly Gender Equality Committee," and mentioned, "In line with the President's vision of gender equality, she will create a gender-equal Korea through integration and inclusion." Nominee Won is a 30th graduate of the Judicial Research and Training Institute and has served as the chairperson of the Women's Rights Committee of the Lawyers for a Democratic Society.
Nominee Joo Byeong-gi, originally from Jeongeup, North Jeolla Province, served as the president of the Korean Association of Applied Economics and is currently a professor in the Department of Economics at Seoul National University. Deputy Minister Kang explained the rationale behind nominating Joo, stating that he is "a scholar who has researched income inequality and fair economic systems," adding that he will diligently implement the government's philosophy of establishing a fair market order and will be the new head of the economic prosecution.
Regarding nominee Lee Eok-won, he stated, "Based on the experience accumulated as an economic bureaucrat, he will faithfully implement the Lee Jae-myung administration's financial philosophy, such as financial policies that alleviate the tears of the common people and revitalizing a healthy capital market." Nominee Lee entered public service as a 35th class administrative examination pass and has served as director of the Economic Policy Bureau at the Ministry of Economy and Finance, as the executive secretary for economic policy at the Presidential Office, and as Vice Minister of the Ministry of Economy and Finance. He currently serves as a special professor in the Department of Economics at Seoul National University.
Deputy Minister Kang commented about nominee Cha Jeong-in, stating, "A person who possesses both expertise, having served as the president of the National Council of University Presidents and as the president of Pusan National University, and sensitivity as a human rights lawyer," and added, "I expect that he will establish the correct direction for education policy so that our public education becomes warm and professional education."
The Presidential Office explained the background of the nomination of nominee Kim Ho, saying, "He has served as the executive committee chairperson of the Citizens' Coalition for Economic Justice, and as a doctor of agricultural economics, he has been actively conducting research," and added, "He will consult with vivid voices from the field to implement the President's promise to create rural areas where everyone wants to live."
