Prime Minister Kim Min-seok visited the National Cemetery in Seoul on the 13th and said, "The Republic of Korea overcame the crisis of martial law and rebellion with a revolution of light."
On this day at the cemetery, during the ceremony for the return of the remains of independence activists buried abroad, the Prime Minister said, "The activities of patriots who dedicated themselves to the independence movement under the harsh colonial rule led to the 'revolution of light' that followed the 'April 19 Revolution,' 'May 18 Democratic Movement,' and 'June Uprising.'"
The Prime Minister stated, "The return of the remains of independence activists is not just a commemoration of the past but a precious opportunity for the people to share lessons for the future."
The activists returning to their homeland this time are Moon Yang-mok (Order of Independence Merit, 1995), Kim Deok-yoon (Order of Patriotic Merit, 1990), Kim Ki-joo (Order of Patriotic Merit, 1990), Han Eung-kyu (Order of Patriotic Merit, 1990), Lim Chang-mo (Order of Patriotic Merit, 2019), and Kim Jae-eun (Order of Patriotic Merit, 2002).
The Prime Minister remarked, "On this historic moment marking the 80th anniversary of liberation, six independence activists who had been sleeping in distant foreign lands have returned to the embrace of the Republic of Korea." He emphasized, "There are still many who are lonely in foreign lands, and it is our duty as descendants to bring them back to the liberated homeland."
The Prime Minister further noted, "The government will continue to honor those who resisted Japanese colonial rule with indomitable courage and spirit, and we will not stop the return of remains until the last one steps on our homeland."
