President Lee Jae-myung nominated Professor Joo Byeong-ki of Seoul National University as a candidate for the chairperson of the Fair Trade Commission on the 13th.
Chief Secretary Kang Hoon of the Presidential Office revealed the Ministerial appointments through a briefing at the Presidential Office in Yongsan, Seoul, on the afternoon of the same day.
Candidate Joo Byeong-ki graduated from the Department of Economics at Seoul National University and earned a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Rochester in the United States. He later served as an assistant professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Kansas and held positions as the president of the Korean Economic Association and a member of the presidential National Economic Advisory Council.
Chief Secretary Kang noted, "Candidate Joo has served as the head of the Center for Distribution Justice at Seoul National University, a scholar who has researched the resolution of income inequality and a fair economic system," adding, "He will be the new head of the economic prosecution that will carefully implement the government's philosophy of establishing a fair market order by breaking the persistent unfairness of subcontracting issues, collusion, and internal transactions."
Chief Secretary Kang said, "Candidate Joo, who has served as the head of the Center for Distribution Justice at Seoul National University, is a scholar who has researched the resolution of income inequality and a fair economic system," indicating that he is a candidate for the new head of the economic prosecution who will meticulously implement the government's philosophy of establishing a fair market order by breaking the persistent unfairness from subcontracting issues, collusion, and internal transactions."
