The defense ministers of Korea and Vietnam held talks on the 12th to discuss defense and arms cooperation measures.
The Ministry of National Defense announced that Minister Ahn Gyu-baek met with Minister Phan Van Giang of the Ministry of National Defense of Vietnam, who is visiting Korea for a summit meeting, at the Ministry of National Defense office in Yongsan, Seoul, that afternoon.
The ministers discussed specific measures to enhance defense and arms cooperation suitable for the "comprehensive strategic partnership" between the two countries during their meeting.
The ministers agreed to promote the prompt revision of the "Defense Cooperation Agreement" to expand the scope of cooperation between the Ministries of National Defense and the military, and to work so that the outcomes of arms cooperation between the two countries can be sustained.
The two countries also signed an agreement for the transfer of Korea's retired patrol vessel, the Jecheon. This is the third patrol vessel Korea is transferring to Vietnam, following transfers in 2017 and 2018.
