Kweon Seong-dong, a member of the People Power Party, firmly refuted allegations raised by a YouTube channel that he played golf with hospitality at a golf course owned by the Unification Church. He also warned of legal action, both civil and criminal, against the media outlet.
On the 12th, Kweon said on Facebook, "Recently, some media have maliciously reported on me visiting a golf course in Gangwon Province, distorting it as if I had not paid for the expense." He added, "This is completely untrue."
Kweon explained, "The schedule was a long-planned private gathering, and the facility is a public space frequented by numerous general visitors. What kind of misconduct could happen here? Wearing a mask and sunglasses is not unusual considering the recent weather."
He continued, "In particular, claiming that I received 350,000 won in hospitality, including a meal expense of 20,000 won, is close to comedy. I paid my share directly, and I also have the receipt." He emphasized, "I am deeply disappointed with the Democratic Party using the expression 'missing in action' when we met in the National Assembly building's bathhouse all last week, what kind of nonsense is that?"
Kweon pointed out that the report is a political offensive intended to divert attention from accumulated negative issues, including the special pardon on Liberation Day, the confusion over tax reform proposals, and the illicit transactions of lawmaker Lee Chun-seok. He also stated that he would take legal action against the relevant YouTube channel.
Kweon said, "I understand the intention to use political attacks to cover up the accumulated problems, but if you think such a shallow tactic can deceive the public, you are greatly mistaken." He added, "I will firmly respond to repeated illegal activities of New-Tamsa, including both civil and criminal measures. The same actions will be taken against media outlets acting as megaphones for malicious YouTubers."
