Former President Moon Jae-in recommended a new book published by former Rebuilding Korea Party leader Cho Kuk, which was released from prison. This came four days after Moon suggested to the Presidential Office that Cho be pardoned.
According to political circles on the 10th, a video was posted on Cho's Facebook the previous day in which former President Moon recommended the new book, "Study of Cho Kuk." "Study of Cho Kuk" is a book published on the 30th, which is a compilation of letters written by Cho while incarcerated.
In the video, former President Moon stated, "Since this is a book that emerged from a tough situation where the representative is trapped in a solitary room, I want to say that it is truly a precious result of effort," adding, "The situation he is in is very unfortunate, but I really appreciate that he is utilizing that time. "
He continued, "I hope that 'Study of Cho Kuk' becomes a study for all of us. Then I believe our society will become a world where life is more bearable for people." He emphasized, "I hope many will read it."
Former representative Cho Kuk is serving a two-year prison sentence confirmed by the Supreme Court for allegations of college entrance exam fraud and cover-up of the Blue House inspection last December. Former President Moon reportedly suggested pardoning Cho during a meeting with Lee Sang-ho, senior political secretary of the Presidential Office, at his residence in Yangsan, Gyeongnam, on the 5th.
The Ministry of Justice's pardon review committee included Cho in the list for special pardons on Liberation Day, announced on the 7th. The final pardon and restoration targets will be decided at a Cabinet meeting presided over by President Lee Jae-myung on the 11th.
