Four contenders for the leadership of the People Power Party will participate in their first televised debate on the 10th. Since the competition structure for the party leader candidates is divided into two pro-impeachment and two anti-impeachment factions regarding former President Yoon Suk-yeol, a clash over party reform and unity is expected.
On this day, the People Power Party will hold the first televised debate for the party leader election featuring candidates Kim Moon-soo, Ahn Cheol-soo, Jang Dong-hyuk, and Jo Kyung-tae. Anti-impeachment candidates Kim Moon-soo and Jang Dong-hyuk, along with pro-impeachment candidates Ahn Cheol-soo and Jo Kyung-tae, will reveal their plans for restructuring the party and future lending struggles.
Earlier, the candidates also faced off at a combined campaign meeting held in Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province on the 8th. Candidate Ahn Cheol-soo noted at the meeting that pro-impeachment candidates are assisting the Democratic Party in casting the People Power Party as a 'sedition party' by glorifying martial law and undermining constitutional spirit, while candidate Jang Dong-hyuk countered, stating that 'Ahn's claims are indiscriminate internal attacks.'
Candidate Kim Moon-soo emphasized the importance of fighting back against lending through unity. Kim stated, 'If our 107 National Assembly members divide any further, we will breach the constitutional amendment blockade, and Lee Jae-myung will secure long-term rule through a four-year re-election amendment.' Candidate Jang Dong-hyuk also declared, 'We will prevent division, bring Lee Jae-myung back to trial, and fight back courageously,' highlighting the importance of unity.
Candidate Jo Kyung-tae mentioned that he plans to boost the party's support ratings through reform. Jo stated, 'The more we oppose impeachment and spread theories of fraudulent elections while shouting 'Yoon Again,' the more the support ratings for the People Power Party plummet.' Ahn also emphasized, 'Those who have wasted and bankrupted the assets gathered by the local residents are shouting that they will fight 'better against Lee Jae-myung and the Democratic Party.'
The televised debates will also take place on the 17th and 19th. The People Power Party will conduct the main primary by the method of '80% party member votes and 20% public opinion polls' and will hold a national convention in Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province, on the 22nd. If no candidate receives a majority of the votes, the top two candidates will face a runoff.
