President Lee Jae-myung declared 36 areas, including Asan City in Chungcheongnam-do and Buk District in Gwangju, as additional special disaster areas on the 6th due to damage from last month's heavy rainfall.
The presidential office spokesperson, Kang Yu-jeong, stated during a written briefing that this followed up on the declaration of six districts with significant damage as special disaster areas on the 22nd of last month.
According to Spokesperson Kang, the deadline for damage reports in the affected areas from the heavy rainfall was extended until the 5th, allowing for a comprehensive accounting of citizens' damages. Furthermore, the special disaster areas were declared subdivided down to the administrative unit of ri, myeon, and dong to maximize support for the areas affected by the rainfall.
According to Spokesperson Kang, President Lee instructed to quickly establish a recovery plan and execute the budget to ensure a swift return to normalcy for the affected residents.
