The Presidential Office noted on the 5th that it plans to personally deliver invitations to the 'People's Appointment Ceremony,' the official inauguration event of President Lee Jae-myung, to former presidents and their spouses. Former President Yoon Suk-yeol and his wife are excluded.
Presidential Office Spokesperson Kang Yoo-jung stated in a briefing at the Yongsan Presidential Office that 'Chief of Staff for Political Affairs Woo Sang-ho will visit former President Moon Jae-in and his spouse, along with Kwon Yang-sook, to personally deliver the invitations for the People's Appointment Ceremony.'
Former Presidents Lee Myung-bak and Park Geun-hye, as well as Kim Ok-sook, the spouse of former President Roh Tae-woo, and Lee Soon-ja, the spouse of former President Chun Doo-hwan, will have the invitations delivered personally by Kim Byeong-wook, the chief political secretary.
Spokesperson Kang explained, 'This is a courtesy towards former presidents and their spouses, and a practical step of the Lee Jae-myung administration pursuing national unity.'
Spokesperson Kang commented on Chief of Staff Woo's decision to only visit former President Moon and his spouse, along with Kwon Yang-sook, saying, 'It's not easy for everyone to move together as one. There might be issues related to regional distances as well.'
He added, 'While the surviving ladies are handled by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, Chief Secretary Kim will personally deliver the invitations. It would be appreciated to understand this as an action to honor former spouses, regardless of the intent of integration or party ideologies.'
President Lee will hold the 'People's Appointment Ceremony' alongside the 80th anniversary celebration of Liberation on the 15th in Gwanghwamun Square, Seoul.
