On the 5th, Democratic Party of Korea leader Jeong Cheong-rae emphasized the push for the 'dissolution of the People Power Party as an unconstitutional party' during the party leader election process, stating, "There's nothing we can't do," and noted that based on the results of the internal coup investigation, there could be a request for a judgment on the dissolution of the People Power Party in response to increasing public demand.
On the morning of that day, Jeong responded to broadcaster Kim Eo-jun's question on the YouTube show "Kim Eo-jun's News Factory" about whether they would really push for the dissolution of the People Power Party.
Jeong said, "Mayor Hong Joon-pyo also said that if Jeong Cheong-rae becomes the party leader, he won't let it go easily. I believe they are preparing for that," and added, "During the Park Geun-hye administration, the Unified Progressive Party was charged with conspiracy to commit rebellion. However, this time, they directly instigated a rebellion. Considering the case of the dissolution of the Unified Progressive Party, the People Power Party is deserving of dissolution tenfold or a hundredfold."
He pointed out that in the special investigation regarding the rebellion, it was revealed that not only Yoon Suk-yeol but also members of the People Power Party played significant roles in the rebellion, asking, "Will the public just sit back? They will say, 'Dissolve that party quickly.'" He also mentioned, "Being the first opposition party, it's not easy to initiate a judgment for dissolution under the Lee Jae-myung administration. Therefore, I introduced a law that allows for the Cabinet to deliberate on whether to proceed with the dissolution judgment after a resolution from the National Assembly."
Earlier, Jeong proposed a bill titled 'The People's Dissolution Judgment Request Law (Partial Amendment to the Constitutional Court Law)' which allows the government to request a dissolution judgment even if approved by the National Assembly, as the current right to request dissolution judgments is only granted to the government. Specifically, he added a new request condition to Article 55 of the Constitutional Court Law stating, "When there is a resolution in the plenary session of the National Assembly."
He emphasized, "Since it has been decided in the National Assembly, it would be difficult to ignore it in the Cabinet."
He revealed strong determination regarding the push for the unconstitutional party dissolution request. In response to Kim Eo-jun's question, 'If the top leadership even agrees that dissolution is excessive, will you still continue?', Jeong replied, "If my resolve is firm, I will persuade the top committee members," and added, "When I was the chairman of the Legal Affairs Committee, many people around tried to dissuade me. However, I followed my convictions, and in the end, it turned out well."
In response to a question that implied, 'Is there anyone who can stop the push for dissolution except for President Lee Jae-myung?', Jeong replied, "If the president says not to do it, I will then seriously consider it."
When asked repeatedly, 'Does it not matter if anyone else says anything other than President Lee Jae-myung?', Jeong answered, "It wouldn't be, given my personality." However, he added, "Since I am the party leader, that must also be coordinated with lawmakers, the presidential office, and the administration."
