Jeong Cheong-rae, the new leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, activated the party's 'special committee for prosecution, media, and judicial reform' during the first public Supreme Committee meeting on the 4th, reiterating his intention to complete the related work before the Chuseok holiday. "I will not compromise with the insurrection forces and will uproot them completely," he also reaffirmed the uncompromising hardline stance toward the opposition.
On that day, Representative Jeong presided over the first public Supreme Committee meeting in the National Assembly since taking office, stating, "The will of the people and party members shown through the Aug. 2 party convention was clear," and emphasized, "We must build a more democratic party centered on party members, strongly support the Lee Jae-myung government, create a robust Democratic Party capable of thoroughly rooting out the insurrection forces without compromise, and ensure the success of the Lee Jae-myung government."
The Democratic Party replaced the backdrop in the party leader's office with the phrase 'Rooting out the insurrection forces, strong reforms' to coincide with the inauguration of the new party leader. Previously, Representative Jeong had made it clear on his first day in office, saying, "I will not shake hands with the People Power Party if there is no reflection and apology regarding the Dec. 3 state of emergency insurrection," revealing a hardline stance toward the opposition.
To accelerate the three major reform efforts (prosecution, media, judicial), the party decided to establish and activate the special committees for prosecution, media, and judicial reform within the party on that day. Representative Min Hyung-bae was appointed as the chairperson of the prosecution reform committee, Choi Min-hee as the chairperson of the media reform committee, and Rep. Baek Hye-ryun as the chairperson of the judicial reform committee.
Representative Jeong noted, "The direction and content of all three major reforms have already been established, and a consensus has formed among the people as we have experienced the prosecution's dictatorial regime under Yoon Suk-yeol and the insurrection situation," adding, "If the special committees devise comprehensive reform plans and proceed, we will be able to fulfill our promise to the public and complete the reforms by the designated time before Chuseok."
Rep. Jang Kyung-tae was appointed as the chairperson of the party members' sovereignty committee. Representative Jeong promised the introduction of a one-person, one-vote system for all party members during the party convention and the permanence of voting for all party members, committing to 'a party of members' sovereignty.' He stated, "We will respond to the expectations of the public with results and protect the constitutional order of Korea through reforms that meet the people's standards, proving that we will open an era of member sovereignty where the party members are the owners by revising the party constitution and regulations to match the standards of our comrades."
Representative Jeong continued, "I will respond to the public's expectations placed on the Lee Jae-myung government and the ruling party with results," saying, "We will become the collaborative partner of the Lee Jae-myung government and a united community."
