The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 3rd that the expansion and improvement projects for three national highways and one national support local road will be completed and sequentially opened starting from the 4th.
According to the ministry on that day, National Road 59 in Gimcheon, North Gyeongsang Province, will open first at 9 a.m. on the 4th. The road has been improved in terms of alignment, and traffic safety facilities have been significantly expanded, enhancing accessibility between the Gimcheon and Gumi areas in connection with the section that opened earlier this year in Gumi.
The six-lane expansion of National Road 38 in Anseong, Gyeonggi Province, will open at 9 a.m. on the 5th. This improvement is expected to enhance mobility between surrounding cities such as Pyeongtaek and Yongin by improving accessibility to the Gyeongbu Expressway (Anseong Interchange).
National Road 3 in Yeoncheon, Gyeonggi Province, is scheduled to open at 11 a.m. on the 29th. The narrow and winding road has been improved, and mobility has been enhanced through the construction of some detour roads.
National Support Local Road 49 between Jin'an and Muju in North Jeolla Province will be open for traffic starting at 10 a.m. on the 30th. The existing steep and winding mountain road has been improved, and the entry roads for farming have been maintained, resulting in the creation of a rural-friendly road. Traffic lights and safety signs have also been improved throughout the road, reducing the accident risk for elderly pedestrians.
The expansion and improvement projects for the four routes were initiated to alleviate chronic traffic congestion and structurally improve traffic accident risks while enhancing public transport accessibility. A total of 228.7 billion won has been invested in the project.
