President Lee Jae-myung called and congratulated Jung Cheong-rae, the newly elected leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, who was elected as the first ruling party leader under this government.
On the 2nd, Spokesperson Kang Yoojung stated in a written briefing, "President Lee emphasized the spirit of 'one team' and said, 'It would be good if we work together to show the public our effectiveness.'"
Spokesperson Kang continued, "Representative Jung also responded that he agrees with the President's intention, stating he would handle reform legislation for the livelihood of the people as swiftly as possible while well managing the division of roles between the party and the government."
Additionally, Spokesperson Kang noted, "The President also called candidate Park Chan-dae and expressed condolences and encouragement to Park, who competed in good faith until the end," adding that he hopes to invite both Representative Jung and Candidate Park to meet soon.
Earlier that day, the newly elected Representative Jung won 61.74% of the votes in the party leader election at the 2nd emergency national party delegate convention held at KINTEX in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province. Representative Jung achieved a crushing victory over candidate Park Chan-dae (38.26%) by a wide margin.
