The fire on the 2,600-ton landing ship (Yangro Bong) that began upon its entry into Jinhae on the 31st of last month was completely extinguished on the 1st.
The Navy announced that the fire, which occurred on the Yangro Bong, was completely extinguished around 3:50 p.m. that day.
Earlier, around 3:49 p.m. the previous day, a fire broke out in the auxiliary engine room of the landing ship, which was entering Jinhae Naval Base in Changwon, Gyeongsangnam-do, and it took 24 hours to extinguish.
The compartments of the Yangro Bong were made of metal material and the structure was complex. Therefore, it took a long time to check all compartments and cool down the compartment that had caught fire due to high temperatures, according to the Navy's explanation.
There were three injured individuals due to this fire. One patient was transferred to the Capital Hospital of the Armed Forces for treatment, while two others who had inhaled smoke have recovered and returned to their unit.
A Navy official noted, "We plan to form an accident investigation committee to thoroughly investigate the cause of the fire and develop measures to prevent recurrence."
