Chairperson Song Eon-seok of the People Power Party urged the participants to refrain from mentioning former President Yoon Suk-yeol at the convention scheduled for the 22nd of next month. He called on candidates to focus on competition centered around vision and policy.
Chairperson Song said at the National Assembly on the morning of the 1st during the meeting of the in-house strategy committee that "the convention is not simply an election for leadership but a festival for all party members," adding that "I hope for competition centered on innovation in the party and the future of Korea."
He further emphasized that "now there is no former President Yoon Suk-yeol in the People Power Party. I hope to halt the wasteful and self-harming act of dragging the former president into the convention," stating that "the competition over the past, which recalls painful wounds, must stop."
Chairperson Song also criticized the corporate tax increase announced by the government the previous day. He expressed concerns that the burden on corporations would grow due to the tax increase, leading to a decrease in their investment capabilities.
Chairperson Song stated, "If this tax reform is implemented, the tax burden on our corporations is expected to exceed 5.7 trillion won," adding that "corporations find themselves in an urgent situation where they need to make bold and timely investments in the face of competition from advanced technologies like artificial intelligence (AI)."
He continued, "While the reasons for the corporate tax increase cite revenue shortfalls and an active fiscal role, it is difficult to understand. The fundamental reason for revenue shortfalls is not the tax rate, but the global economic downturn," noting that "instead of raising taxes, we should reduce inefficient fiscal expenditures and revise indiscriminate cash distribution policies."
