On the 30th (local time), U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he would meet with the South Korean trade negotiation delegation to hear their proposals for tariff reduction.
On this day, President Trump posted on social media platform Truth Social, stating, "I will meet with the South Korean trade delegation this afternoon." He noted, "South Korea currently has a 25% reciprocal tariff in place, but they have brought a proposal to reduce that tariff," adding, "I am interested in hearing what that proposal is."
In this regard, Yoon Kyoo-yeon, the senior presidential secretary for public relations, also noted, "President Trump will meet with our negotiation delegation," adding, "There may be an emergency briefing depending on the results of the meeting."
As the meeting between President Trump and the visiting negotiation delegation has been realized, there are observations that the South Korea-U.S. trade negotiations have reached the brink of an agreement.
Currently in Washington, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Goo Yoon-cheol, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Kim Jeong-kwan, and Deputy Minister Yeo Han-koo have been conducting negotiations with the U.S. side.
On the 30th, Deputy Prime Minister Goo, along with Minister Kim and Deputy Minister Yeo, held trade discussions with U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo and U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer.
Currently, it has been reported that the visiting negotiation delegation, including Deputy Prime Minister Goo, has entered the White House for a meeting with President Trump.
