Minister Ahn Gyu-baek of the Ministry of National Defense will visit Poland from the 31st to the 2nd of next month to attend the K2 tank export contract signing ceremony. This will be the Minister's first overseas visit after taking office.
According to the Ministry of National Defense on the 30th, Minister Ahn will attend the K2 tank's second export contract signing ceremony with Poland's Minister of National Defense Mariusz Błaszczak on the 1st (local time). It is reported that the Polish government requested Minister Ahn's attendance at the signing ceremony.
Hyundai Rotem and the Polish government completed negotiations for the second contract for the K2 tank on the 2nd. While the specific contract scale has not been disclosed at Poland's request, the second contract is valued at approximately $6.5 billion (8.3 trillion won), making it the largest single defense export contract in history. The total supply quantity is 180 units, with Hyundai Rotem producing and delivering 117 units, while 63 units will be provided by the Polish state-owned defense company PGZ.
In addition, Minister Ahn will hold discussions with the Minister of National Defense of Poland. They plan to discuss ways to strengthen defense and defense industry cooperation between the two countries. A Ministry of National Defense official noted, "During the visit to Poland, in addition to defense and defense industry cooperation, we are expected to discuss strategic cooperation plans between Korea and Poland for peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and in the region."
