The Democratic Party of Korea officially launched the 'Comprehensive Response Special Committee for the so-called 'three special investigations' on the 30th. While the special investigations into Kim Keon-hee, the insurrection, and the deceased Marine Corps members are underway, the Democratic Party stated that it will focus all efforts through the committee on organized responses to investigatory obstructions by the opposition and the reception of tips, as well as protecting tipsters.
At the launch ceremony held at the National Assembly on that day, Chairperson Jeon Hyun-hee criticized, saying, 'Forces obstructing the special investigation are present. It is the People Power Party that hindered the previous administration from exercising its veto power indiscriminately and preventing the cessation of insurrection.' She further stated that 'the People Power Party is cloaking the special investigation in a false claim of 'political oppression.'
She continued, 'The special investigation is about finding the culprits by pursuing evidence and criminal suspicion, which is the duty of restoring justice and the order of the judicial system.' She emphasized, 'The committee will take the lead in responding to the forces of insurrection that obstruct the special investigation.'
Chairperson Jeon stated, 'I declare at this moment that we will consider all acts obstructing the special investigation as crimes and actively respond to them.' She added, 'I ask that all insurrection forces, corruption related to national affairs, and forces pressuring the investigation be held accountable under the law without exception.'
She also mentioned that 'the committee will respond to all acts obstructing the special investigation and indirectly support the special investigation.' Furthermore, she said, 'If necessary, we will promote responses at the National Assembly level through system improvements or legal amendments. We will also respond actively with necessary measures, such as extensions of periods.'
The Democratic Party of Korea plans to not only prevent hindrances to the special investigations through the special committee but also to carry out necessary support and monitoring throughout the investigation and trial processes.
Under the committee, three individual special investigation committees have been formed, including the 'tip-off center for the three special investigations and the committee for the protection of whistleblowers.' The Kim Keon-hee special committee is chaired by Representative Jeon Hyun-hee, while the insurrection special committee and the Marine Corps special committee are led by Representative Kim Byeong-joo. Representative Baek Hye-ryun serves as the head of the whistleblower protection center.
Park Chang-jin, the spokesperson for the Democratic Party, noted, 'We will provide legal advice to protect countless whistleblowers who are fearful of retaliation from the insurrection forces by establishing a tip-off center for the three special investigations and a whistleblower protection center.'
