Jang Dong-hyuk, a lawmaker running for the leadership of the People Power Party, and former Minister of Employment and Labor Kim Moon-soo will appear on broadcasts hosted by conservative YouTubers, including Korean history instructor Jeon Han-gil. Former Minister Kim is set to appear on the 29th of this month, while lawmaker Jang will appear on the 31st. Along with Jeon, Go Seong-guk, Seong Chang-gyeong, and Kang Yong-seok will participate in a Q&A session and will livestream it on their respective channels. The candidates will answer questions posed by party members about various issues.
Lawmaker Jang noted during a phone call on the 27th, "To ensure that party members can properly verify the candidate, we want to go out to any channel that requests verification and provide answers. What's more important than the advantages or disadvantages of participation is the candidate's message." He also stated, "Even if we don't agree with the claims of people like instructor Jeon Han-gil, to move toward a more future-oriented approach and find ways to counter the Lee Jae-myung administration, we must confront the issue head-on."
Lawmaker Jang and former Minister Kim are considered the leading figures of the anti-impeachment faction against the impeachment of former President Yoon. Their appearances on YouTube came at a time when the party is reviewing whether to discipline Jeon, drawing attention. After Jeon joined the party last month and stirred controversy, the party leadership instructed the Seoul party to check whether Jeon's remarks and actions violate the party constitution and regulations and to take necessary measures. Additionally, the Seoul party has designated some members of the ethics committee to be dedicated ethics officers for Jeon.
Amid this, lawmaker Cho Kyung-tae, who is also running for the party leadership, stated the same day, "If pro-Yoon becomes the party leader, the party will face dissolution," reiterating the demand for the so-called 'reform faction' to unify their candidates. This means that lawmakers such as Ahn Cheol-soo, former representative Han Dong-hoon, and former lawmaker Yang Hyang-ja, who support the impeachment of former President Yoon and demand party renewal, should present a single candidate. However, lawmaker Ahn said he cannot agree to an 'artificial unification,' and former representative Han declared he would not run on the 24th.
During a news conference in the National Assembly, lawmaker Cho said, "If forces loyal to former President Yoon, who is on trial for insurrection charges, become the party leader and dominate, the Democratic Party of Korea will immediately initiate dissolution efforts against our People Power Party." He remarked that with pro-Yoon member Song Eon-seok as the acting chairman and floor leader, the party's approval rating has fallen to the 10% range, stating, "It wouldn't be strange even if we closed the doors today."
