President Lee Jae-myung said on the 24th regarding the recent stagnation of the Gadeokdo new airport project, "This is not a project that will be stranded just because a problem arose temporarily," adding, "You don't have to worry too much."
On this day, President Lee responded to a citizen's question during a town hall meeting in Busan, asking, "The Gadeokdo new airport project is at a standstill. How does the government see this situation?"
President Lee said, "This is a national project that has been planned for a long time through several governments, so it seems there was a brief confusion. It seems that Hyundai E&C said they couldn't submit the design plan under a private contract, leading to concerns about whether it will be stranded."
He continued, "A national project cannot just be stopped like the Yangpyeong Expressway because someone feels like it or doesn't feel like it," and added, "You don't have to worry about that."
He also noted, "There is actually a possibility of delays, and the government will do its best to ensure that it proceeds smoothly."
The Gadeokdo new airport is one of the most anticipated projects in the Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam regions. However, concerns about the loss of momentum in the project have been raised due to recent confusion in the design process and the withdrawal of contractors.
President Lee also stated that he would accelerate the 'Southeast Megacity metropolitan transportation network project.'
President Lee remarked, "To create a Southeast Megacity, we need to expand the metropolitan transportation network. A transportation system is needed that allows for comfortable commuting without private cars," adding, "Groundbreaking will likely take place after 2030, but I will try to advance it if possible."
