Minister Jeon Jae-soo of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries said on the 24th, "The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries will do its utmost to have an overwhelming status and role that no previous government has experienced."
Minister Jeon said at an inauguration ceremony held at the Government Sejong City Hall that morning, "We will concentrate administrative, industrial, and financial functions in Busan," adding, "We will enhance the role and status of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries so that employees can feel greater pride."
He emphasized, "The transfer to Busan is not just a simple transfer, but creating a new marine metropolitan area that will be responsible for the future of the Republic of Korea," and noted, "Just as Columbus opened the New World and changed civilization in the 15th century, the Arctic route will become a new route that will change the future of Korea."
On that day, Minister Jeon also presented key tasks, including ▲innovation in the fishing industry ▲port development ▲revitalization of fishing villages ▲strengthening maritime sovereignty.
He stated, "We will make the fishing industry a sustainable Mirae Industries," and added, "We will reform coastal fisheries based on total allowable catch (TAC) and increase productivity in aquaculture by introducing smart technology."
Regarding shipping and port sectors, he mentioned, "We will develop Jinhae New Port into a smart automated port and will develop ports nationwide without delay according to regional development strategies," pledging to promote eco-friendliness and digitalization.
He also added, "We will expand various tourism infrastructures, such as complex marine leisure tourism cities and marine healing in fishing villages, to revitalize the local economy, and we will create a new model in offshore wind power that shares benefits with local communities and fishermen."
