President Lee Jae-myung had a luncheon meeting with philosopher Do-ol Kim Yong-ok on the 24th, noted Jeon Sung-hwan, Chief of Integrated Listening.
During the luncheon, Kim said, "The March 1st Movement should be named the March 1st Independence Revolution, which occurred not under the influence of foreign ideologies like Wilson's self-determination but within the historical context of our nation."
President Lee also stated, "The process of overcoming the illegal martial law of Dec. 3 until the early election on June 3 is a condensed moment of such history," adding, "Cases where our people overcame the martial law and achieved a revolution of light should also be defined as a democratization movement." He further expressed hope to Kim that "true conservative elders and social figures like Do-ol would create a space for dialogue and discussion to open the path of integration that Korean society should take."
Kim remarked, "The fundamental principle of the humanities comes from the classics, so let's develop the ideological foundation of President Lee's practical line through classical education." He also told President Lee, "It's like a situation where Jeon Tae-il has become president. At last, a president of the common people has been born," the chief noted.
Earlier, during the presidential campaign period in April, President Lee had a discussion with Kim on the topic of "tasks for the next government." During the presidential election period in January 2022, he also discussed rural issues with Kim, who then referred to President Lee as "a person chosen by heaven," saying, "How could this person have come this far if it were not for heaven's will?"
