The Statistics Korea checked the progress of the '2025 Population and Housing Census' 100 days ahead of the event.
On the 24th, Statistics Korea announced that it has systematized the research infrastructure for the 2025 Population and Housing Census over the past five years, including the selection of survey items since 2021, the advancement of the census integrated management system, and the establishment of the survey population.
Statistics Korea has completed its preparations for the census implementation, including verifying the validity of the survey items and testing the survey system functions through three pilot surveys and a test survey.
Currently, Statistics Korea is in the final stages of survey design, including electronic survey form design, translation of foreign language survey forms, and 20% sample design. It is also preparing for training of survey personnel scheduled for September, including facility maintenance of training sites and review of survey guidelines. To ensure safe field surveys, it plans to equip survey supplies, including tablets with electronic maps and portable SOS devices for survey personnel.
The households participating in this survey will be selected using a statistical method based on stratified cluster sampling to represent all populations and households in Korea. A survey notification marked 'Survey Target Household' will be sent by mail to the sample households in mid-October.
Households that receive the survey notification can participate in the survey through internet and telephone methods starting from October 22. Mobile surveys can be accessed via QR codes, and telephone surveys can be conveniently participated in through call centers. For households that do not participate in the internet and telephone survey period, face-to-face interviews by statistical survey personnel will begin on November 1, and participation through internet and telephone methods will also be available during this period.
To allow busy sample households to participate in the survey during the survey period, a reservation system for telephone or face-to-face interviews will be operated through the Population and Housing Census website. A 24-hour call center utilizing AI features is also planned to be operated to quickly address respondents' inquiries about the survey and facilitate their participation.
The time required for the survey is approximately 8 minutes for one-person households and approximately 17 minutes for four-person households. Households that complete the survey will be awarded either a commemorative coin worth 50,000 won for the 100th anniversary of Korea's Census or a mobile gift certificate worth 30,000 won through a lottery.
Vice Administrator Ahn Hyung-jun noted that 'the Population and Housing Census is a very important survey used to comprehensively understand societal changes and as a basic data source for policy establishment and evaluation, academic research, and corporate management.'
