The consumer recovery coupon, which provides up to 550,000 won per person, will be followed by discounts in five sectors including movies and exhibitions starting from the 25th, sequentially. Due to varying speeds in building systems for each sector, sports facility discount coupons are expected to be available starting late next month.
The government doubled the number of discount coupon usages an individual can use from the initial plan. Unlike the consumer recovery coupon provided to all citizens uniformly, the discount coupons apply when paying for actual cultural expenses such as ticket reservations. Once the allocated budget is exhausted, the discount event will also end. Essentially, it operates on a 'first-come, first-served' basis.
According to the government on the 23rd, if you reserve a movie through the CGV, Lotte Cinema, Mega Box, or CineQ applications starting from the 25th, a discount of 6,000 won will automatically be applied to the existing ticket price. Each person can receive the discount for 2 tickets at each reservation site per reservation. Since discount benefits are not shared between movie reservation sites, an individual can receive discounts for up to 8 tickets. Initially, the government intended to limit the number of discounts per person to 4, but during discussions, it was increased to twice that number. The budget allocated for movie discount coupons is 27.1 billion won, which will apply discounts to about 4.5 million tickets.
Discounts will also apply in conjunction with the 'Culture Day' discount, which falls on the last Wednesday of each month. With the Culture Day discount and the supplementary movie viewing discount combined, movies can be watched in theaters for just 1,000 won.
Following movies, the government plans to issue discount coupons for art exhibitions, performing arts, sports facilities, and accommodations. Discount coupons for art exhibitions and performing arts will be issued starting from the 10th of next month as server setups lag behind those for movies.
Discounts will be applied when reserving tickets online for exhibitions and performances. However, this is not available on all sites. It will only be available on five platforms: Interpark, YES24, Melon Ticket, Ticket Link, and Time Link. Naver Reservation, which ranks fifth in market share, has stated it will be unable to establish the necessary server until next month, and thus will be excluded from this initiative.
The discount amounts are 3,000 won for exhibitions and 10,000 won for performances. Similar to movies, the benefits are limited to 2 per site. As five sites will issue discount coupons, individuals can receive discounts for up to 10 tickets.
Discount events for accommodations will begin on the 20th of next month. If the price per night is less than 70,000 won, a discount coupon for 20,000 won will be issued; if over that amount, a 30,000 won discount coupon will be provided. Accommodation discounts will also be applied when reservations are made through the app. The discounts are limited to domestic providers. The government plans to conduct discount events in stages, such as first and second phases, but each individual can only receive a discount once per phase.
Unlike movies, exhibitions, performances, and accommodations, discounts for sports facilities such as gyms are available only to those aged 65 and older who receive the basic pension. Seniors can apply online (Korean Physical 100) to receive a sports facility discount coupon worth 50,000 won.
An individual can receive a maximum of 3 times the discount, totaling 150,000 won, although the implementation date has not been confirmed. The government anticipates that the rollout of sports facility discounts will occur by the end of next month. Unlike other sectors that are fully funded by the national government, the sports facility discount is 70% funded by the national government and the remaining 30% by local governments. Given that local governments need to secure financing, this is expected to take longer than other projects.
