The People Power Party concluded during a party meeting held to discuss innovation proposals that it would intensify its offensive against the ministerial appointments of the Lee Jae-myung administration. There was hardly any specific discussion about the innovation proposals themselves. Only a truth game over Yoon Hee-sook's attendance remained.
Park Seong-hoon, the spokesperson for the People Power Party, met with reporters after the party meeting on the afternoon of 23rd and said, "Chairperson Yoon Hee-sook spoke about the overall outline of the innovation proposal," adding, "There were opinions from lawmakers that questions should be raised first about the inappropriate appointments of the Lee Jae-myung administration that do not meet the public's expectations."
He continued, "The lawmakers did not ask individual questions about the innovation proposal; instead, it can be viewed that Chairperson Yoon expressed her thoughts," noting, "There were opinions among the lawmakers that sufficient deliberation is necessary, and the proposal is not drifting."
Chairperson Yoon appealed for the first proposal at the party meeting that day. The innovation proposals presented by the Innovation Committee are broadly categorized into three: The first proposal is to include a public apology in the party constitution and regulations; the second proposal is to shift to a single leadership system for decision-making; and the third proposal is to relax the conditions for recalling party members. Only the first proposal, which involves the inclusion of a public apology in the party constitution and regulations, was discussed during the meeting.
Chairperson Yoon said, "I appealed to the lawmakers regarding the first proposal, which states that we must sincerely apologize to the public," adding, "If we do not sincerely apologize and ask for one more chance by saying, 'This is really our last chance' and 'If we do not apologize sincerely, we won't get another opportunity,' the lawmakers listened well."
Chairperson Yoon emphasized, "It has been 11 days since the Innovation Committee presented the agenda; almost two weeks have passed, and to hear opinions that deliberation is needed is personally quite disappointing," adding, "Whether we properly cross the river of impeachment or decline into an extreme right party is currently the most important issue for the party."
The failure to properly discuss the innovation proposal was almost a foreseen situation. Many lawmakers of the People Power Party were unable to attend the afternoon meeting, as a sudden additional meeting was organized after the originally scheduled meeting in the morning. Concerns have also been raised that without a set deadline for finalizing the innovation proposals, decisions could be continuously postponed. The issue of personnel renewal, which is a cause of internal backlash, was also not discussed at the meeting.
Chairperson Yoon explained, "If the first proposal is resolved, the other innovation proposals can also be similarly resolved," adding, "If we are recognized as genuinely breaking away from the clearly wrong past and not resembling the former President Yoon Suk-yeol and his spouse, other issues will also be resolved together."
The schedule for an additional meeting to further discuss the innovation proposal has not yet been decided. Spokesperson Park expressed, "There are many issues to point out regarding the recovery from damage and ministerial appointments that do not meet the public's expectations," adding, "Since we need to focus our party's strength on these issues, I think it might be a bit difficult to have an additional meeting."
