Representative Ahn Cheol-soo, who declared his candidacy for the leadership of the People Power Party, argued that the party convention rules should be changed to '100% public opinion poll.' He expressed opposition regarding the entry of history lecturer Jeon Han-gil.
On the 21st, after meeting with Chairperson Yoon Hee-sook of the Innovation Committee at the People Power Party's headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul, Representative Ahn told reporters, 'To attract public interest, we must show a surprising change by revising the convention rules to 100% public opinion poll.'
Earlier, Chairperson Yoon proposed changing the convention rules to a 100% public opinion poll method to the party leadership. Currently, the system for selecting a representative of the People Power Party is 80% party member votes and 20% public opinion polls.
Representative Ahn stated, 'Since we lost the presidential election under the current rules, it is not appropriate to maintain these rules as they are; rather, we should significantly embrace public sentiment.' He added, 'Only then will many citizens take an interest in us, and if no one cares, we will only shrink more.'
He continued, 'It is (Chairperson Yoon's) proposal to innovatively change the convention rules, and I fully agree. It is important for our party to demonstrate a commitment to innovation before holding the convention. I confirmed that there are many common points with Chairperson Yoon.'
Regarding Jeon Han-gil's entry into the People Power Party, who supports former President Yoon Suk-yeol, Representative Ahn remarked, 'That itself signifies whether the party is innovating and holding a convention or not, and we shared a concern that if we keep insisting on past matters, we can only shrink further.'
