Incheon's Seo-gu announced on the 21st that it will conduct a survey on the preferred name for Seohae-gu and Cheongna-gu.
The survey, which will run until the 6th of next month, aims to gather opinions from 2,000 residents aged 18 and older in Seo-gu, which will be separated following the administrative system reorganization. The survey will be conducted randomly via landline (20%) and mobile phone (80%) in accordance with the demographic ratios provided by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
The procedure for changing the name of Seo-gu is being pushed forward in line with the administrative system reorganization scheduled for July next year. A new district named Geomdan-gu, which separates the Geomdan area, will be established, while the remaining areas of Seo-gu will retain their name while adopting a new one.
This survey was decided upon through a deliberation process that included both online and offline collection of residents' opinions and public briefings in the four regions of Seo-gu, conducted by a professional polling organization using telephone interviews. The Seo-gu Name Change Promotion Committee plans to select the final name based on the survey results, followed by seeking opinions from the Incheon City Council and advancing through legislative procedures.
To announce the name change and build consensus, Seo-gu plans to send out notices to all households included in Seo-gu after the administrative system reorganization from the 28th to the 30th.
