President Lee Jae-myung appointed former National Assembly member Kim Ui-gyeom as head of the new government's new development agency on the 20th. The new administrator is a politician with a background as a journalist who served as the Spokesperson for the Moon Jae-in administration.
Kim is from Chilgok, Gyeongbuk, and after moving to Gunsan, Jeonbuk, he graduated from elementary, middle, and high school in Gunsan. With this background, he introduces his hometown as Gunsan.
He joined the Hankyoreh Newspaper in 1990 and held positions such as head of the social department and editorial writer. In 2016, he created and led a special reporting team that investigated the 'Choi Soon-sil scandal.'
It is reported that he formed a connection with former President Moon Jae-in, who was then the senior secretary to the president and chief of staff, while covering the Blue House during the Roh Moo-hyun administration.
In 2018, he was appointed as the Spokesperson for the Office of the President under the Moon Jae-in administration, but amid allegations of real estate speculation and controversy over preferential loans, he resigned from the spokesperson position in March the following year.
During the 2020 general election, he joined the Open Democratic Party, receiving the No. 4 proportional representation spot, and became a member of the National Assembly after former member Kim Jin-ae, who held a higher spot, resigned in 2021.
