President Lee Jae-myung met with the ruling and opposition party floor leaders on the weekend of the 19th to hear their opinions regarding the situations of education minister candidate Jin-sook Lee and gender equality and family minister candidate Sun-woo Kang.
According to the political arena on the 20th, President Lee met the day before with Kim Byeong-ki, acting leader and floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, and Song Eon-seok, the People Power Party's emergency committee chair and floor leader.
Earlier, Song, the emergency committee chair, who had been demanding the withdrawal of nominations for some minister candidates, including Lee and Kang, publicly stated on the 17th, "I request a meeting with the president to improve the personnel verification system."
There are interpretations that President Lee accepted Song's request within two days.
In the meeting on the 19th, Song is also reported to have demanded the withdrawal of nominations for both candidates, while floor leader Kim is said to have maintained a position of 'no dismissal.'
President Lee is reported to have listened to both sides' positions but did not mention a conclusion.
