The People Power Party urged the resignation and withdrawal of nomination of Kang Seon-woo, a candidate for Minister of Gender Equality and Family who is accused of 'staff bullying,' and Lee Jin-sook, a candidate for Minister of Education accused of 'thesis plagiarism.' They also criticized the first ministerial candidates of the Lee Jae-myung government as an inappropriate appointment.
Song Eon-seok, chairperson of the emergency response committee of the People Power Party and floor leader, held a press briefing at the National Assembly on the 16th and said, "It has been revealed that candidate Kang has been reported for unpaid wages not once but twice," adding, "Do not make the public angry any longer; resign or withdraw your nomination."
He emphasized regarding candidate Lee that "there have been instances of thesis plagiarism in past Minister of Education confirmation hearings, but there has never been a case of even copying typos," stating, "If she feels any shame, resigning is the answer."
Regarding Kwon Oh-eul, a candidate for Minister of National Defense, he mentioned, "In response to claims that he lacks expertise in veterans' affairs, a taxi driver he met locally said he is a veteran's family member. How frustrated must the public be?" He also pointed out that Ahn Gyu-baek, a candidate for Minister of National Defense, is under suspicion of being a defense soldier who has visited a disciplinary barracks.
Chairperson Song commented on the amendment to the Constitutional Court Act proposed by Representative Jeong Cheong-rae, a candidate for the Democratic Party of Korea leadership, which would allow the National Assembly to file for the dissolution of political parties, saying, "The public will not tolerate attempts to lead Korea into one-party dictatorship."
