On the 15th, the Ministry of Economy and Finance announced that it will accept public suggestions through the 'Citizen Participation Budget' platform until the 25th. This is a follow-up action in accordance with the decision made at the Cabinet meeting regarding the 'efficient preparation of next year's budget.'
The Ministry of Economy and Finance noted that 'an active role of the finances is required to ensure that next year's budget serves as a practical catalyst for recovery and growth' and explained, 'We plan to reflect the opinions of the sovereign citizens as much as possible to reduce unnecessary expenditures and secure additional fiscal capacity.'
Citizens can freely express their opinions on budget items that have conventionally received support, those classified as low-performance, or those categorized as wasteful expenditure. The suggested opinions will be reviewed by the relevant ministries and financial authorities to be reflected in next year's budget proposal.
In particular, wasteful expenditures, low-effectiveness projects, similar or duplicate projects, areas that should be undertaken by the private sector, projects that need adjustments due to changing times, and projects with poor execution will also be included in the proposal targets.
The Ministry of Economy and Finance said, 'While there have been instances where public opinions were collected and reflected in budget requests, this is the first time that public suggestions regarding expenditure efficiency are directly utilized in budget preparation.'
