At the first high-ranking party-government meeting held on the 6th since the inauguration of Lee Jae-myung's government, they agreed to establish a system for future implementation checks to facilitate substantive party-government consultations.
Park Sang-hyuk, chief spokesperson for the Democratic Party of Korea, noted during a briefing at the National Assembly communication center after the meeting that this was the first high-ranking party-government meeting since the inauguration of Prime Minister Kim Min-seok and the Lee Jae-myung government, adding, "We decided to work more closely in the high-ranking party-government under Prime Minister Kim Min-seok."
It is reported that follow-up management of implementation results was a key topic discussed at the meeting.
Park, the chief spokesperson, said, "We agreed to establish a system that not only concludes with simple meetings but also checks after the execution plans to ensure that the meeting results are well implemented." He added, "Moving forward, we agreed to further enhance and systematize the high-ranking party-government."
He continued, "We will create units for execution plans regarding how to substantiate the party-government, and we will check them. The Prime Minister's Office will create units for its checks, and the party will create its own units to review the results. This is part of our commitment to responsible party-government relations."
The meeting lasted about 1 hour and 20 minutes. Following the public remarks, key issues such as ▲ inflation trends and response measures ▲ early implementation plans for additional budget ▲ disaster safety measures for the summer were discussed in a closed session.
Along with reports from each ministry, the opposition party reiterated the need for swift execution of living expenses budgets, such as consumer coupons.
Park, the chief spokesperson, stated, "Regarding the additional execution plans, the party emphasized that expanding or systematizing the use of consumer coupons is necessary," adding, "The government has also indicated that it would check and, if necessary, expand it further. What matters now is speed, so we agreed to create conditions for rapid execution."
Furthermore, the party-government acknowledged the need to respond particularly to the rising prices of processed foods, agreeing on the necessity for a response. During the meeting, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Song Mi-ryeong reported on the rising trend of processed food prices and pledged thorough inspections in the future, while the party stated its intention to relay the public's opinions in detail.
Earlier, Kang Hoon, secretary to the President, requested during the opening remarks of the meeting that the personnel hearing procedures be conducted swiftly. In response, Park noted, "We are preparing to ensure that the personnel hearings are conducted substantively and that each minister can work effectively, creating conditions for the Lee Jae-myung government to operate."
The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Kim Min-seok, Acting Party Leader Kim Byeong-ki of the Democratic Party, and Secretary Kang Hoon, along with ministers and vice-ministerial officials from related departments. Lee Hyung-il, Acting Vice Minister of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, attended to report on inflation trends and additional budget matters, while Kim Seong-beom, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, provided updates on disaster response for the summer; however, issues regarding the transfer of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries were reportedly not discussed.
