President Lee Jae-myung held his first press conference on the 3rd, marking 30 days since taking office, and the Democratic Party of Korea evaluated that "this has confirmed to all citizens that the 3 years of arrogance, self-righteousness, and isolation have come to an end and a normal government has been established." On the other hand, the People Power Party poured out sharp criticism, calling it "the fastest self-congratulation in history."
Democratic Party of Korea Senior Spokesperson Park Sang-hyuk issued a written briefing immediately after the president's press conference, stating that "this press conference confirmed the president's will and aspiration to uphold the responsibilities of the state to protect the people's livelihoods and safety through communication with the public and the media."
He noted that "this has greatly increased the public's expectations for the state affairs to be unfolded by the people's sovereignty government and for the future of Korea," adding that "President Lee has made contact with the public to communicate the government's philosophy and policy direction." He continued, "Although we have rushed through 30 days, many challenges remain, such as restoring the cycle of economic recovery, building a social safety net, practical diplomacy focused on national interests, and reforming power institutions."
People Power Party Floor Leader and Emergency Response Committee Chairman Song Eon-seok criticized at a meeting of lawmakers held in the National Assembly that "although it is said to be the fastest press conference in history, it is actually the fastest self-congratulation among all presidents."
Representative Na Kyung-won also stated on Facebook that "the livelihoods are still screaming, security is shaking, and the rule of law is collapsing, but the president is solely focused on self-congratulation." She added that "there are no substantial explanations or measures regarding economic difficulties, skyrocketing prices, discriminatory regulations on dwellings loans, and security concerns."
Spokesperson Park Sung-hoon remarked in a commentary that "this is a shameful self-congratulation that fails to provide a proper reality diagnosis or specific solutions, filled with self-justification and absurdities." He further pointed out that "the statement regarding the tariff negotiations with the United States just five days before the deadline admits that there have been no measures taken, as the parties have not defined what they want."
Spokesperson Park stated that "the government is only eager to cover up its irresponsibility and conceal the failure in personnel matters without even a word of apology for crime suspect prime minister candidates and unqualified minister candidates," claiming, "After a month since taking office, there is only disappointment rather than expectations. While stock prices have risen like a bubble, the difficulties of the people's livelihoods remain unchanged."
On this day, President Lee held a press conference lasting a total of 121 minutes under the title "The President's 30 Days, Questions from the Media and Answers to the People" at the Blue House guesthouse.
