Representative Jeong Jeom-sik (3rd term, Tongyeong-Goseong, Gyeongnam) has been appointed as the new Secretary-General of the People Power Party, and Representative Kim Jeong-jae (3rd term, Pohang Buk-gu, Gyeongbuk) has been appointed as the Chair of the Policy Committee.
On the 3rd, Park Seong-hoon, the floor spokesperson, noted that this decision was made after approval from the emergency response committee and the general meeting of lawmakers.
Representative Jeong, a former prosecutor, is considered a person associated with the old pro-Yoon faction. He has held positions such as the party's supreme committee member and emergency response committee member. Last year, he served as the chair of the policy committee under the leadership of Hwang Woo-yeo during the interim committee system but faced conflicts due to demands for personnel renewal after Han Dong-hoon's appointment as the new leader, which led to his voluntary resignation. He has now taken on one of the three key roles within the party again. The Secretary-General of the party is responsible for overseeing the party's finances and organization.
After the emergency response committee meeting, Park, the floor spokesperson, met with reporters to address concerns that this conflicted with the balanced personnel policy highlighted by Floor Leader Song Eon-seok, stating, "It doesn't seem appropriate to categorize the Secretary-General by factions. It's a position that will manage party affairs for a management-type emergency committee lasting perhaps two months. I hope there is no unnecessary factional approach to the Secretary-General position."
Representative Kim Jeong-jae, approved as the chair of the Policy Committee at the general meeting, previously served as a special advisor in the office of President Yoon Suk-yeol's transition team. Within the party, he has served as the secretary for the Land Infrastructure and Transport Committee and the special committee on the stabilization of the people's economy during the latter half of the 21st National Assembly. His term as chair of the Policy Committee will last until the next party convention.
The party spokespersons are Park Seong-hoon and Choi Soo-jin, while the secretary of the emergency response committee is the spokesperson for Floor Leader Park Soo-min. The People Power Party plans to hold provincial party conventions over a two-week period until the 16th to elect delegates who will select the chairs of each provincial party.
