Ahn Cheol-soo, a member of the People Power Party who has been appointed as the chair of the Innovation Committee, announced plans to form the committee with what is referred to as 'centrist, capital area, and youth' personnel.
After a meeting with Song Eon-seok, the chair of the emergency response committee, Ahn noted in a briefing at the National Assembly on the afternoon of the 2nd that 'it is appropriate to have the Innovation Committee composed of around 7 to 9 members' and introduced this plan.
He continued, saying, 'I will publicly announce the appointment of commissioners as early as tomorrow or, at the latest, next Monday.'
Ahn explained, 'We are in discussions about distributing one-third of the appointees from the National Assembly members, one-third from local party chairpersons, and one-third from external personnel,' adding, 'Individuals with an innovative mindset will be prioritized over factional considerations.' He mentioned concerning the appointments, 'There were no significant disagreements regarding the personnel I recommended,' but he remained reserved, stating, 'I will reveal the appointments once they are confirmed.'
He identified the writing of a 'white paper' as a major task for the Innovation Committee. Ahn stated, 'We will create the white paper ourselves, and a separate task force (TF) will be formed to carry out the proposals for innovation,' and announced, 'The Innovation Committee will hold meetings every Wednesday to present the discussed innovation proposals.'
Regarding the background of accepting the chairperson role, Ahn said, 'I thought that the most urgent matter in the party was the Innovation Committee, so I proposed it directly, and after being elected, Chairman Song made the suggestion, which I could not refuse,' adding, 'Regardless of my position, I will play a role that helps the party.'
Regarding his candidacy for the national convention, Ahn clearly stated, 'I am not considering it,' asserting his intention not to run for party leader.
