The Democratic Party of Korea said on the 1st that it would swiftly process the confirmation bill for Prime Minister nominee Kim Min-seok, warning that it would hold the People Power Party accountable both civilly and criminally if they did not cooperate. The People Power Party reiterated its call for the withdrawal of Kim's nomination, stating, 'The suspicions have not been fully resolved.'
Kim Byeong-ki, acting leader of the Democratic Party of Korea and floor leader, noted during a party strategy meeting held at the National Assembly that 'Korea is facing the daunting challenges of crises both at home and abroad as well as the normalization of the state. However, the insurrectionist forces remain robust, and there are ongoing tariff and Middle Eastern crises.' He added, 'We will swiftly process the confirmation bill for Prime Minister Kim Min-seok.' The Democratic Party has plans to hold a general meeting on the 3rd to process the prime minister's confirmation bill.
He emphasized, 'If the People Power Party continues to obstruct like this, we will hold them accountable both civilly and criminally.'
The floor leader stated, 'There was effectively a six-month gap in government following the insurrection on the 12th and 3rd. Now, the Lee Jae-myung government must be allowed to work properly,' and said, 'We will do our utmost to support the new government in stabilizing state affairs through swift confirmation and hearings.'
The leadership of the People Power Party held a field meeting in front of the presidential office in Yongsan, Seoul, pressuring for the withdrawal of Kim's nomination.
Floor leader Song Eon-seok asked, 'I ask the president, did you watch the hearings closely? Have the suspicions been fully resolved?' He criticized, 'Is a person who claimed to have invested in cabbage farming, receiving 4.5 million won each month while only harvesting twice a year, qualified to be prime minister? This mocks the farmers sweating under the scorching sun.'
He continued, 'How can a person with two past convictions for violating the Political Fund Act complain about being the only one investigated? How can someone who does not respect Supreme Court rulings be qualified to be prime minister? How can someone who does not know the scale of the national budget or the debt ratio discuss economic crises? The suspicions have not been resolved at all. Rather, they have only grown.'
He concluded, 'Now the president's duty is clear. The nomination of the prime minister must be withdrawn,' and warned, 'While one may think they can get away with insisting on confirmations without any evidence in the hearings, the moment the arrogant and light-headed Kim Min-seok's prime ministership is pushed through, the downfall of the Lee Jae-myung government will begin.'
