The Korea Customs Service announced that it collected a total of 67 trillion won in taxes on imported goods last year. This accounts for about 20% of Korea's total national tax revenue.
On the 27th, the Korea Customs Service published the 'Customs Statistics Yearbook' summarizing the details of the relevant tax revenue classified by tax items, goods, and importing countries. The Korea Customs Service publicizes the previous year's tax revenue statistics every June.
Last year, the tax revenue under the jurisdiction of the Korea Customs Service amounted to 67 trillion won, accounting for 19.9% of the total national tax revenue (336 trillion 500 billion won).
By tax item, value-added taxes were 52 trillion 100 billion won, other national taxes were 7 trillion 800 billion won, and tariffs were 7 trillion won. By customs house, Busan Headquarters Customs collected the most at 13 trillion 400 billion won, followed by Pyeongtaek Direct Customs (11 trillion 200 billion won), Incheon Headquarters (11 trillion won), Incheon Airport (10 trillion 300 billion won), and Daegu Headquarters (9 trillion 300 billion won).
The most collected imported item was oil and coal, with 2 trillion 500 billion won collected from these alone. Other items included machinery and computers at 1 trillion 200 billion won, electrical products at 800 billion won, automobiles at 600 billion won, and meat at 600 billion won.
By country of import, China was the largest at 2 trillion 900 billion won, followed by the Middle East at 2 trillion 200 billion won, Japan at 1 trillion 800 billion won, Southeast Asia at 1 trillion 100 billion won, the European Union (EU) at 1 trillion won, and the United States at 800 billion won.
The Korea Customs Service noted that it will distribute the 'Customs Statistics Yearbook' in print to the National Assembly, Ministry of Economy and Finance, and other governmental institutions, as well as major research institutions and libraries nationwide, and that it plans to publish it on the Korean Statistical Information Service and in export-import trade statistics.
