It has been confirmed that Mayor Oh Se-hoon of Seoul, Kim Yong-tae, the Chairperson of the People Power Party's emergency response committee, Kim Jae-seop, a member of parliament, and Lee Jun-seok, a member of the Reform Party, had a dinner meeting. Mayor Oh reportedly asked them to help play a role in the reform of the conservative camp.
According to the political circles, Mayor Oh, Chairperson Kim, and Members Kim and Lee had dinner together at the mayor's residence in Hannam-dong, Yongsan District, Seoul, on the 15th. Someone close to Mayor Oh stated, 'It was a gathering to encourage each other after the presidential election.'
At this gathering, Mayor Oh urged the members who are voicing reforms within the party to play a role in changing and renewing conservatism, and he was reported to have said to the former presidential candidate, 'Please join forces together.'
In particular, he was reported to have said to Chairperson Kim, 'Do not resign before your term ends, but remain until the end to ensure the reform plans are implemented.' Chairperson Kim announced five major party reform plans, including 'nullification of the party's position against impeachment' and 'audit of the party's actions concerning changes to the presidential candidate' on the 8th, but the party's mainstream is being cautious, noting 'it could lead to further injuries.'
This has been interpreted as a message of support from Mayor Oh to the reform-minded members within the party, including Chairperson Kim. Participants reportedly also shared a sense of crisis regarding the local elections scheduled for next June.
Meanwhile, lawmaker Kwon Young-jin, who previously served as the first vice mayor of Seoul, also attended the meeting. He led the opinion supporting Chairperson Kim's 'term extension' within the 're-elected members group seeking the party's innovation.'
