Former Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo evaluated the background of President-elect Lee Jae-myung, stating that voters chose based on ability, likening it to a snack advertisement phrase that says, 'even if it looks bad, it tastes good.'
On the 16th, Hong noted in a post on the supporter communication platform 'Dream of Youth' that 'this election was one where the moral integrity and integrity of the president were not considered at all, and only the ability to govern the nation was viewed,' adding that it was 'the choice of people burned by Yoon Suk-yeol.'
'Looking at the Lee Jae-myung administration, I am reminded of a past snack advertisement copy, the advertising copy for 'Match Match Bar,' he wrote. The Match Match Bar was a chocolate released by Haitai Confectionery in 1982 and gained attention with the advertising phrase, 'even if it looks bad, it tastes good.'
Hong's remarks are interpreted to mean that despite various controversies, voters placed a higher emphasis on President Lee's policy implementation ability and leadership when casting their votes.
Meanwhile, former Mayor Hong has departed for Hawaii, USA, since the last presidential election and is expected to return on the 17th.
He superficially denied the possibility of a return to politics, but just before his return, he left a message on Facebook saying, 'The month in Big Island was a time to reflect on the two sins I owe to my people while gazing at the boundless Pacific Ocean and to think about what I should do for my country going forward.' This has led to speculation that he may resume his political activities.
In particular, former Mayor Hong has recently received requests from supporters to establish a new party, responding with 'I understand' or indicating that he would not return to the People Power Party, which raises the possibility of an alliance with members like Lee Jun-seok.
