Kim Byeong-ki, the floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, announced a delegation of 16 floor representatives, emphasizing that 'under the current situation, where the next six months are the golden time for reform, understanding the government's policies is essential to quickly resolve the pressing issues.' He stated that he would focus on key livelihood bills such as the Commercial Act amendment through the newly created 'Deputy Representative for Livelihoods'. He promised to formalize meetings with the opposition party when the new floor leader of the People Power Party is elected on the 16th.
On that day, the floor leader held a press conference at the National Assembly's communication room and announced the appointment of 16 deputy floor leaders: Kim Nam-geun, Kim Gi-pyo, Kim Moon-soo, Kim Young-hwan, Kim Jun-hyeok, Kwon Hyang-yeop, Moon Dae-rim, Park Yong-gap, Park Hong-bae, Oh Se-hee, Lee Geon-tae, Lee Seong-yoon, Lee Hoon-ki, Jeon Jin-sook, Jo In-cheol, and Chae Hyun-il.
The floor leader said, 'The first consideration in the appointments was expertise and capability,' noting that 'those selected have the expertise in their assigned fields, including standing committees, and possess the reputation and capability to create and implement better solutions.'
He continued, 'The situation that Korea currently faces is not easy, and under the current circumstances, where the next six months are the golden time for reform, it is essential to understand the government's policies to quickly resolve the pressing issues,' adding that 'appointments were made considering regions, standing committees, and proportional representatives.'
Kim Nam-geun was appointed as the newly established Deputy Representative for Livelihoods, and he will focus on key livelihood bills such as the Commercial Act amendment. The floor leader explained, 'We will seek solutions through social dialogue by revitalizing the party-government and Euljiro committees,' stating that 'Kim Nam-geun will be focusing on this issue.'
For the floor leader's office chief, first-term lawmaker Lee Gi-heon (Gyeonggi Goyang-si Byeong) was appointed, while Yoon Jong-gun (Gyeonggi Anseong-si) was appointed as the newly established 'Chief of Support for the Floor Leader' under the Kim floor leader's system.
The floor spokespersons appointed include Kim Hyun-jung, Moon Geum-joo, and Baek Seung-ah, while the new floor operation chief is Moon Jin-seok, the policy chief is Heo Young, and the floor communication chief is Park Sang-hyuk.
It is expected that the processing of contentious bills, such as the Criminal Procedure Act amendment (suspension of criminal trials upon presidential election), will be adjusted for speed. The floor leader stated, 'Since livelihood issues are urgent, we will proceed while balancing livelihood bills, the supplementary budget, and so-called reform legislation.'
Regarding cooperation with the opposition, he noted, 'Once the delegation from the major opposition party, the People Power Party, is determined tomorrow, we will hold an introductory meeting to coordinate opinions. We, the ruling party, will formalize these meetings.' However, he dismissed the People Power Party's demand that an opposition lawmaker takes charge of the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee, stating, 'We will comply with the rule that the committee is to be rotated every two years as per our operating rules.'
