President Lee Jae-myung attended the 70th Memorial Day ceremony held at the National Cemetery in Dongjak-gu, Seoul, on the 6th. This is the first national commemorative event attended since taking office on the 4th.
The presidential office explained President Lee's attendance in a press release as it was to honor and remember the patriots and fallen heroes who sacrificed and devoted themselves for the country and people, and to achieve national unity by inheriting their noble spirit.
The ceremony was attended by over 4,000 people including President Lee, key government officials, national meritorious people and bereaved families, representatives from various sectors, and citizens.
The families of the late Lieutenant Colonel Park Jin-woo, Major Lee Tae-hoon, Sergeant Yoon Dong-kyu, and Sergeant Kang Shin-won, who died in a Navy maritime patrol airplane crash last month, as well as the family of the late Fire Captain Lim Sung-chul, who died in a fire at a tangerine warehouse in Seogwipo, Jeju, in December last year, were invited.
