In the Honam region, the largest support base of the Democratic Party of Korea, Kim Moon-soo of the People Power Party has emerged as the only winner at the 4th polling station in Doyang-eup, Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do, where the National Hospital of Sorokdo is located.
According to the National Election Commission's election statistics system on the 4th, it was recorded that at this polling station, out of a total of 235 votes, Lee Jae-myung received 108 votes (45.9%) and Kim Moon-soo received 118 votes (50.21%), indicating that Kim gained more votes.
This location was reported to be the only polling station where President Lee, who received over 80% of the votes in Gwangju and Jeollanam-do, obtained fewer votes than Kim.
The Sorokdo Hospital is a place where Hansen's disease patients from all over the country have migrated to live, and it was specially supported by the late Lee Yuk-young, the wife of former President Park Chung-hee and the mother of former President Park Geun-hye. For this reason, there has been high support for conservative candidates in past presidential elections.
Since the direct presidential election system was established in 1987, this polling station has supported conservative candidates in all eight elections, establishing itself as 'TK within Honam.' In the last 20th presidential election, President Lee received 130 votes (36.6%) out of 355, trailing behind candidate Yoon Seok-youl, who received 207 votes (58.3%). However, in this election, the gap has significantly narrowed.
