The National Election Commission announced on 3rd at 1 p.m. that the voter turnout for the 21st presidential election was provisionally recorded at 62.1%.
Of the 44,391,871 registered voters in this presidential election, 27,565,241 have completed voting.
This figure reflects the results including early voting, in which 15,423,607 participated from the 29th to 30th of last month (34.74%), as well as the voting results of overseas citizens and absentee voters. The National Election Commission will disclose the aggregated early voting rates on its website starting from 1 p.m.
So far, the voter turnout is 0.8 percentage points higher than the turnout of 61.3% at the same time during the 2022 presidential election.
The region with the highest turnout was Jeonnam (74.1%), followed by Jeonbuk (71.8%) and Gwangju (71.6%). The lowest turnout was in Busan (58.1%), with Daegu (59.3%) and Incheon (60.1%) following. The turnout in Seoul and Gyeonggi was recorded at 61.2% and 61.6%, respectively.
Voting is taking place from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. at 14,295 polling places across the country for 14 hours. Unlike early voting, you can only vote at your designated polling place according to your registered address. The location of the polling places can be checked through the voting notification sent to each household, the 'voter registry viewing system' of the district, city, or county offices, and the polling place finder service on the National Election Commission website.
However, if you are in line at a polling place by 8 p.m. and have received a waiting ticket, you can still vote after the closing time.
Voters must bring a resident registration card, passport, driver's license, youth card, or any government-issued photo ID. Saved images of mobile IDs cannot be used.
Vote counting is expected to start at around 8:30 p.m. at 251 counting centers nationwide. The National Election Commission predicts that the outline of the elected candidates will become clear around midnight. However, this timing may be moved forward or delayed depending on the difference in vote percentages among the candidates.
