In the 21st presidential election, Lee Jae-myung, the candidate from the Democratic Party of Korea, showed a lead nationwide, performing well in the Yeongnam region, which is traditionally known as a conservative stronghold, including Gyeongsangnam-do and Ulsan.
According to exit poll results from 3 major broadcasters, MBC, KBS, and SBS, on the 3rd, candidate Lee Jae-myung received 51.7%, surpassing the majority, while Kim Moon-soo from the People Power Party recorded 39.3%, and Lee Jun-seok from the Reform Party received 7.7%.
With the vote gap between candidates Lee Jae-myung and Kim Moon-soo projected to reach 12.4 percentage points, the People Power Party's situation room remained silent. Just 10 minutes after the exit poll was announced, Kweon Seong-dong, the floor leader who led the election, and Yoon Jae-ok, the head of the central election campaign committee, abruptly left the venue.
Kwon Young-guk from the Democratic Labor Party received 1.3%, while independent candidate Song Jin-ho garnered 0.1%.
In most regions, including the Seoul metropolitan area (Seoul, Gyeonggi, Incheon), Honam (Gwangju, Jeollanam-do, Jeollabuk-do), Chungcheong, and Jeju, candidate Lee was ahead.
In Seoul, Lee Jae-myung received 49.3%, Kim Moon-soo received 40.1%, and Lee Jun-seok received 9.2%. In Gyeonggi, Lee Jae-myung received 55.8%, Kim Moon-soo received 34.6%, and Lee Jun-seok received 8.5%. In Incheon, Lee Jae-myung received 53.6%, Kim Moon-soo received 37.4%, and Lee Jun-seok received 7.5%.
In Daegu (Kim Moon-soo 67.5%·Lee Jae-myung 24.1%·Lee Jun-seok 7.3%) and Gyeongbuk (Kim Moon-soo 64.0%·Lee Jae-myung 28.2%·Lee Jun-seok 6.7%), the TK region still showed a strong conservative dominance, but in Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam (PK), candidate Lee Jae-myung had close competition within the margin of error, winning in some areas.
In Busan, Kim Moon-soo received 49.0%, Lee Jae-myung received 42.7%, and Lee Jun-seok received 6.9%. In Gyeongnam, Kim Moon-soo received 48.4%, Lee Jae-myung received 43.4%, and Lee Jun-seok received 6.3%. In Ulsan, Lee Jae-myung led with 46.5% against Kim Moon-soo (44.3%) and Lee Jun-seok (6.9%).
In the Honam region, including Gwangju, Jeollanam-do, and Jeollabuk-do, it was expected that candidate Lee Jae-myung would win by around 80%. In Gwangju, Lee Jae-myung received 81.7%, Kim Moon-soo received 10.5%, and Lee Jun-seok received 5.9%. In Jeollanam-do, Lee Jae-myung received 80.8%, Kim Moon-soo received 10.9%, and Lee Jun-seok received 6.4%. In Jeollabuk-do, Lee Jae-myung received 79.6%, Kim Moon-soo received 11.8%, and Lee Jun-seok received 6.7%.
In the Chungcheong region (Daejeon, Chungnam, Sejong, Chungbuk) and Gangwon, as well as on Jeju Island, candidate Lee Jae-myung also took the lead. In Daejeon, Lee Jae-myung received 51.8%, Kim Moon-soo received 38.3%, and Lee Jun-seok received 8.8%. In Chungnam and Sejong, Lee Jae-myung received 51.3%, Kim Moon-soo received 39.7%, and Lee Jun-seok received 8.2%. In Chungbuk, Lee Jae-myung received 51.1%, Kim Moon-soo received 40.2%, and Lee Jun-seok received 7.9%. The Chungcheong region showed vote rates very similar to the national sentiment, earning it the label of 'the barometer of public opinion.'
In Gangwon, Lee Jae-myung is projected at 48.8%, Kim Moon-soo at 42.2%, and Lee Jun-seok at 6.7%. In Jeju, Lee Jae-myung is projected at 57.9%, Kim Moon-soo at 31.2%, and Lee Jun-seok at 9.3%.
By age group, candidate Lee Jae-myung received the highest number of votes from voters in their 20s to 50s, while Kim Moon-soo garnered most votes from voters aged 60 and above.
Among voters in their 20s, 41.3% chose Lee Jae-myung, while 30.9% voted for Kim Moon-soo. Lee Jun-seok also received 24.3% of the votes.
Among voters in their 30s, 47.6% supported Lee Jae-myung while 32.7% supported Kim Moon-soo. Lee Jun-seok received 17.7% of the votes.
Among voters in their 40s, Lee Jae-myung received overwhelming support at 72.7%, while Kim Moon-soo garnered only 22.2%. In the 50s, Lee Jae-myung was expected to receive 69.8% of the votes, with Kim Moon-soo expected to receive 25.9%.
In the 60s, Kim Moon-soo led with 48.9%, surpassing Lee Jae-myung (48.0%). Among those aged 70 and older, Kim Moon-soo received 64%, while Lee Jae-myung received 34.0%.
The exit poll was conducted on the day by the joint prediction survey committee (KEP), formed by the broadcasting association and the three major terrestrial broadcasters (KBS, MBC, SBS), at 325 polling stations with a total of 80,146 voters. The margin of error for this exit poll is ±0.8 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
